Mixed-class tickets

Normally, there are only a limited number of tickets for sale at a certain price for a certain flight. Therefore, tickets are often sold out in a price category even though the plane is not full.

Sometimes, there are tickets at a certain price on the outbound flight but not on the return flight, or vice versa. In that case, it is possible to issue so-called mixed-class tickets in order to get a price that is as good as possible for the trip as a whole. The price paid is inbetween what it would have cost to buy a round-trip ticket at the lower price and what it would have cost to buy a round-trip ticket at the higher price. The total price is calculated by adding the two different round-trip prices together and dividing by two. If the two types of tickets have different regulations or different validity (which is almost always the case), the most restrictive regulations and validity will apply.

Please note that mixed tickets can only be issued for travel with the same airline in both directions, outbound and inbound.
